“This book contains:
The mind of God,
The state of man,
The way of Salvation,
The doom of sinners and
The happiness of believers.
It’s doctrines are Holy
It’s precepts are binding,
It’s histories are true, and
It’s decisions are immutable.
Read it to be wise,
Believe it to be safe, and
Practice it to be Holy.
It contains
Light to direct you,
Food to support you and
Comfort to cheer you.
It is
The traveler’s map,
The pilgrim’s staff,
The pilot’s compass,
The soldier’s sword, and
The Christians’s character.
Here
Paradise is restored,
Heaven is open, and
The gates of hell disclosed.
Christ is it’s grand object,
Our good it’s design, and
The glory of God it’s end.
It should
Fill the memory,
Rule the heart, and
Guide the feet.
Read it
Slowly,
Frequently, and
Prayerfully.
It is
A mine of wealth,
A Paradise of Glory, and
A river of pleasure.
It is
Given you in life,
Will be opened in the judgment, and
Will be remembered forever.
It involves the highest responsibility,
Will reward the greatest labor, and
Will condemn all who trifle with it’s Sacred contents”.

We meet them a moment, and then they are gone
into the great unknown,
Some with a smile, and some with a song,
and some with a sob or a moan.
Some with hearts that are heavy and sad,
burdened as burdened can be.
Did I do what I could to lighten their load,
Oh, did they see Jesus in me?
I think of the longing I saw in their face,
of the sad, mute appeal in their eyes;
When I saw them lie wounded and bruised by the way,
did I love them and help them to rise?
Did I, like Jesus, go bind up their wounds,
and make their hearts happy and free?
Did I, like Jesus, show mercy and love?
Oh, did they see Jesus in me?
Burdened and weary, we meet them each day,
each with his sins and his cares,
Longing for someone to hold out a hand,
for a place in our hearts and our prayers.
Burdened and sinful, weary and sad,
how many, how many, there be!
Oh, help me, dear Saviour, to lighten their load,
and may they see Jesus in me.
Alexander Lindo

Jesus is the gift that perfectly fits every heart
and it is with His love that all celebration starts.
We rejoice in Him as we remember His birth
and thank God for sending His only Son to earth.
His life led from a manger to a cross on a hill
where He faithfully followed His Father’s perfect will.
He freely laid down everything so that we could live,
and there is no greater treasure anyone could give.
Like a scarlet ribbon His love wrapped around the cross
and He offered it to us all at the greatest cost.
So each time that we give we remember what He’s done
and honor the perfect Gift—God’s one and only Son.

Holy Father, You were with me in the past even when I wasn't paying attention.
Even though in my foolish past I did things that I wouldn't do again.
I know that You don't hold them against me and that You are with me even now.
Lord, You know the burden I have for the children.
Sometimes I can see that they are just like me when I was their age.
Help me understand that just as You changed me so You can change them, and that I need
not fear for the future except as I forget the way You have been with us despite our past.
In Jesus' name amen.
